We were honored to have Morgan Tinnberg (Project development manager, Tetra Pak) and P.Kannathasan (Territory Manager-Dairy development, Pearl Dairy Farm Ltd) who offered practical training to the dairy farmers. Their vast knowledge in dairy farming was a valuable learning experience for the farmers.
The selected lead farms hosted the January farmers’ training providing other farmers with hands-on training that they will need to manage and raise healthy calves. In all the 6 training sessions held, participants learned a variety of skills that are critical in managing young stock and information on general tick-borne diseases.
Due to these hands-on training sessions, farmers are able to interact with the experts and learn new techniques. For instance, after birth weighing, calf pen construction, calf growth checking, and measurement of the young calf. Successful calf rearing aims to produce healthy calves that grow into productive cattle. The housing and husbandry tasks vary in different climates on different farms and under different economic conditions.
The farmers were excited with the training and are looking forward to attending new, more accessible and informative training sessions.
